Akongo Welfare Monitor

Daily support for your scientific research projects

A unique approach to animal welfare

Akongo is a research organisation that supports zoos and laboratories in projects focused on animal welfare. We have developed a unique approach, called Animal Welfare Commitment (EBEA), which is based on team commitment and training, technological innovation, and behavioural monitoring. With EBEA, you can quickly and efficiently deploy research projects and initiatives to improve animal welfare.

For zoos, our method also includes communication tools dedicated to visitors, thus helping to raise public awareness of animal welfare.

Our Approach

A Proven Method for Animal Welfare Monitoring

We work closely with your teams, on-site and remotely, throughout the year. We are present at every stage to ensure regular monitoring, facilitate communication between teams, and deliver lasting results.

Step 1 - Species selection
The species to be prioritised for monitoring and evaluation are selected in collaboration with the team.
Step 2 - Team Training
Animal welfare, application familiarisation, training in behavioural observations.
Step 3 - Data Collection
The Welfare Monitor application allows allows for real-time or delayed observation and data collection (e.g., overnight), even offline.
Step 4 - Results Analysis and Action Plans
After each assessment, strengths and weaknesses are identified to enable the animal care team to better target priority actions.
Step 5 - Efficiency Monitoring
Short, medium and long-term goals are defined. Through regular impact assessments of the actions,, the team can adjust the strategy and verify if the goals are achieved.
Step 6 - Sharing and Publication
Sharing knowledge is essential, which is why we regularly communicate through scientific journals and at conferences.
